PHILATELIC PROBLEM SEVEN

Fohl Paste-up mystery

Englehardt Fohl made two forgeries of the 1860 Nesbitt cut squares. A number of copies of the ten cents value are paste-ups made by joining two vertical halves together. Can anyone suggest why this was done? Has anyone seen a five cents forgery made this way?
